LYNDON, Vt. -

Police say a Lyndon woman duped shoppers into doing a good deed, and then pocketed the profits.

Demaris McConnell, 20, was arrested for allegedly stealing from customers at the Ocean State Job Lot in St. Johnsbury where she worked. Police say last week, McConnell took shoppers' donations intended for the Vermont Food Shelf and also stole money from the Peacham Congregational Church.

She's due in court in January.
