New Year's fire destroys NH home

Posted: Updated:

CANAAN, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire family celebrating the new year in Boston returned home to find their house burned down.

Firefighters in Canaan were called to the fire at about 4 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, the back of the home was engulfed in flames and fire was shooting out of a front second-story window.

Three of the family's cats were likely inside the home and are missing.

Firefighters tell the Valley News they're still trying to determine the cause. They said a furnace and pellet stove sat in a section of the house that was in flames when they arrived.

Firefighters were called to the home about a year go for a pellet stove fire. But homeowner Bryan Tenney said he installed a new pellet stove a few months ago.
