Good year for Vt. turkey hunters

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Turkey hunters in Vermont had a good year.

State fish and wildlife officials say a record 6,968 turkeys were taken during the spring and fall seasons in 2013.

That's the most since the turkey hunt was re-established in the 1970s.

Biologists say it's a sign of the continuing recovery of wild turkeys.

The birds were reintroduced in Vermont in 1969 after being wiped out during the 1800s.
