Fletcher Allen has almost 2 dozen with new insurance

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont's largest hospital says almost two dozen patients have sought care since the new health insurance system took effect with the turn of the year.

Mike Noble of Burlington's Fletcher Allen Health Care says two patients sought treatment at the emergency room who haven't received their insurance cards as part of the state's health care overhaul efforts and about 20 preregistered Thursday for care from other areas of the hospital.

Noble says that of the 20, the majority did not have insurance cards.

Kevin Goddard of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont says he doesn't know yet how many customers have sought care with their new health insurance coverage.

Thursday was the first business day since the new health insurance policies took effect on Jan. 1.
