At Issue: Safe Roads Policy

Posted: Updated:

"Safe roads, safe speeds" is Vermont's winter roads policy, but each storm we see cars off the road, leading many people to ask us why the roads aren't maintained more often.

The average route time for a VTrans plow is about two hours, meaning if you see that truck go by, it'll be two hours before you see it again.

Cat Viglienzoni spoke with Vtrans about their roads policy to find out why the trucks can't run more often and what exactly they mean by "safe speeds".

In addition to driving slowly, VTrans is also reminding motorists to clean their cars off before getting on the roads and to keep a safe distance from snowplows that are out working.
