Rain and ice cause localized flooding

Posted: Updated:

The wet weather could cause localized flooding, especially in spots where ice build-up might divert the path of rain run-off.

At one home in South Burlington water seeped in through the exhaust pipe of a furnace causing smoke and carbon monoxide to build-up in the basement.

"The cause of it is probably with the amount of ice and snow buildup up around the house. The water was able to actually start seeping in to the furnace exhaust pipe itself," said South Burlington Fire Dept. Lt Micah Genzlinger. "It's definitely very important, especially with this weather and the crazy winter we have had already for people to check on all of the exhaust pipes and inlets into their house."

Fire department crews vented the smoke and carbon monoxide and repair crews were called into address the water problem.
