Climbing the slopes at Cochran's

RICHMOND, Vt. -

It was a sunny Monday afternoon at Cochran's Ski Area for the final day of the Tour de Chitteden hosted by Colchester and CVU. Event organizers said the race was the first hill climb format in Vermont high school skiing.

Picking up where they finished last year, the CVU RedHawks hade little trouble in the .8k skate style race. A staggered start meant the top times came in first. Charlie Maitland led the pack as he crossed ahead of the competition at 4:58 overall. Mount Mansfield's Wylie Picotte, first coming into the second leg, took runner-up honors.

No surprise on the girls side as Champlain Valley's Autumn Eastman coasted to another cross country win with a time of 5:47 overall.  Her teammate, Cailly Braun, picked up second place overall with Mount Mansfield's Abby Grab finishing third.

CVU took home the event titles in both the boys and girls competitions with MMU finishing second.
