Colchester crash sends four to hospital

Posted: Updated:

A crash in Colchester Tuesday night sent an infant and three others to the hospital.

The two-car collision shut down Route 7 as crews worked to get people in both vehicles out of their cars.

Multiple departments responded to the crash south of Chimney Corners in Colchester. Police believe a sedan was headed north when it crossed the center line and struck an SUV coming the other way.

The driver in the SUV was treated on the scene and released. Four others were taken to the hospital.

Officials say they do not believe road conditions were a factor.

"The road conditions in this area-- with the exceptions of the very sides of the roads-- the traveled portion is dry and free of ice in this area," Colchester Police Sgt. Jim Roy said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Officials have not released the names of the people involved in the crash or the conditions of those taken to the hospital.

Police say it is too early to tell if speed or alcohol were factors.
