ESSEX, Vt. -

A follow-up to a story we first told you about Tuesday night.

Wednesday, the police chief in Essex said there is nothing that his department could have done to prevent a father from killing his son and then taking his own life.

Police say last month, Ludwig "Sonny" Schumacher killed his 14-year-old son, Gunnar.

Tuesday, we showed you multiple police reports filed by the boy's mother, Christina Schumacher, outlining a pattern of fear related to her relationship with her estranged husband.

Despite those reports, Chief Brad LaRose says his department had no information to act on or that spelled out domestic violence. The chief says his department takes domestic violence seriously. And more details will be released once the investigation is complete.
