Burlington Boys and Girls Club hits the slopes

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, Vt. -

Kids from the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington had quite an adventure Wednesday night. A group headed to the Cochran's Ski Area to strap on skis and snowboards for the very first time.

The kids are taking part in an eight-week workshop teaching them all about the winter sports. Cochran's is providing the rentals, lift tickets, lessons and dinner all free of charge.

The program is quickly becoming a hit with these adventurous young people who were ready to hit the slopes.

"The most fun part is that when you go down, you go so fast. You want to go faster, but you have to stop or you'll fall," said Furkan Barut, a member of the Boys and Girls Club.

"A lot of these kids would never have an opportunity to do something like this and it's just a really fun activity that I love to do and a lot of my friends love to do," said Alex Holt, a staff member of the Boys and Girls Club.

"It is my passion. I truly believe that sports skiing should be available for anybody who wants to and I love it," said Laura Farrell of Cochran's Ski Area.

The team at Cochran's is hopeful it will have these kids racing by the end of the two-month program.
