ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. -

After more than 30 years with the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, Executive Director Charlie Browne has stepped down.

Saturday, a large crowd turned out at the museum to bid Browne farewell. He was also awarded the 2014 Franklin Fairbanks Award, which is given out to people who have made a significant impact on the state.

Fairbank Museum's new Executive Director Adam Kane said, "Charlie has been an inspiration to the museum and a visionary within the nonprofit and museum world within the state and the region."

"The work is wonderful. The work is a privilege, but the people who I have worked with over the years here are outstanding people of all sorts and they just made it a joy to be here," said Charlie Browne.

Browne served as executive director from 1992 to 2013. He began his career at the museum in 1978 as an intern.
