Senate to honor Sally Fox; search on for successor

Posted: Updated:

Vermont lawmakers will honor Senator Sally Fox Wednesday at the State House -- delivering remarks in the Senate -- as the search for someone to fill her seat begins.

Senator Fox lost her battle with cancer last week.   With the legislature in session, the push is on to appoint a replacement. The Chittenden County Democratic Committee will submit its nominees to the Governor, who can choose from the list or pick someone else to replace Fox.

"First of all, it's tough to replace Senator Sally Fox -- she did an extraordinary job," Gov. Peter Shumlin said. "They will vote on whoever is interested in being appointed and then send me the names.  I will then interview the candidates and come to a decision."

Some names tossed around -- former Burlington City Councilor Ed Adrian. But he tells Channel 3 News he's not interested right now.  Debbie Ingram says she is interested.  She says she is saddened by the circumstances, but has reached out to the committee.  Ingram came in 7th last year in the race for one of Chittenden County's six Senate seats.
