ST. ALBANS, Vt. -

A Williston woman is charged with lying to police about being a victim of a crime.

Police say Monday morning they got a tip that 27-year-old Dawn Atwood was possibly being held against her will by her ex-boyfriend in the St. Albans area. Investigators checked the man's Fairfax home but it was empty.

Police later learned Atwood escaped from her ex at a gas station and was hiding in a Wal-Mart bathroom. Investigators say her ex-boyfriend was on the scene and cooperated with police who determined Atwood made up the whole story.

She's charged with Creating a False Public Alarm and is due in court next month.
