PLAINFIELD, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Environmental Court has ruled in favor of a plan by Goddard College in Plainfield to build a new heating plant that will be fueled by biomass.
The court ruled on an appeal by Plainfield resident Rhea Wilson and an appeal by some area residents of the land-use permit issued for the plan. The court combined the cases and issued its ruling last week. The opponents argued the plant is too close to their homes.
Goddard College plans to replace 23 oil-burning furnaces at the school with the new system.
Goddard Chief Financial Officer Faith Brown tells the Times Argus the school hopes to have the plant running before next winter.
Opponents' lawyer Erick Titrud says they're disappointed with the decision.
