State highway crews worked quickly to fill in a dangerous sinkhole on Interstate 89 Wednesday morning.
Vermont State Police say the hole developed on the edge of the right-hand lane on the southbound side of the road in Milton. It was discovered at about 6 a.m. It forced police to close the travel and breakdown lanes, causing a traffic backup during the morning commute.
Crews from the Vermont Transportation Agency brought in heavy equipment and loads of gravel to repair the hole. No word yet on what caused the ground to give way.
