State Senator Sally Fox, who passed away last week after a battle with cancer, was honored Wednesday by her colleagues under the golden dome.
With friends and family members looking on and an arrangement of flowers at her seat, senators took turns telling stories about their lost friend. Fellow lawmakers recalled her passion for children's issue and health care among others, and her tenacious attitude.
"She lived her life with a strong compass as to what she believed. She didn't like it when things didn't go her way and she wasn't afraid," said Sen. Rich Westman, R-Lamoille County.
"She never forgot where she came from. Never forgot why she was here and always looked out for those people that couldn't be here to speak and defend themselves," said Sen. Bobby Starr, D-Essex-Orleans counties.
"I'm going to miss Sally very much, but I'm very grateful for all I have received from her," said Sen. Diane Snelling, R-Chittenden County.
Lawmakers approved a resolution sponsored by all the members of both bodies honoring Fox's years of service.
