BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A 28-year police veteran is going to become the new deputy police chief in Vermont's largest city.
Lt. Jannine Wright will assume her new duties on Sunday.
Wright will join Deputy Chief Bruce Bovat as the top assistants to Burlington Police Chief Mike Schirling.
Schirling tells the Burlington Free Press Wright started her career with the Benton County Sheriff's Department in Iowa in 1986 and joined Burlington police in 2001.
Wright has worked in the patrol division and as a detective in the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations, a county-wide team that handles sex-crime cases.
