NCAA Aproves Waiver, UVM Avoids Penalties

Thursday January, 16th

The America East Conference announced Thursday that the NCAA has approved a blanket waiver for all Division-1 teams absolving them of any penalties for having more than four non-D-1 opponents on their schedules.

The Vermont men's team, as well as Maine, fell under that category due to conference newcomer UMass-Lowell not being considered as a Division One opponent when it comes to scheduling since the RiverHawks are making the transition up from Division Two to D-1 this season.

Including their two matchups against Lowell, Vermont would have had six such games on their schedule. With this waiver in place, the Cats can now play out the remainder of their schedule, including their second meeting with Lowell, without the threat of penalties from the NCAA.
