RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - The family of a Vermont woman killed in a hit-and-run crash last year is suing the Rutland attorney charged in the crash.
Merrill Outslay of Mendon, the husband of 71-year-old Mary Jane Outslay, sued Christopher Sullivan in Rutland civil court.
The 53-year-old Sullivan, former city attorney for Rutland, has pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal crash and driving under the influence with death resulting.
The Rutland Herald reports Sullivan's civil attorney, John Paul Faignant, declined to comment.
Sullivan told police he never saw Outslay last April and only knew that the crash occurred because he heard a "thud." He said he didn't realize at first that he had struck a person.
Outslay attorney Matthew Anderson wrote that the damage to Sullivan's car belied his statements.
