Crews are busy in Burlington repairing the copper steeple of the First Baptist Church.
The St. Paul Street building is more than 150 years old and Mother Nature has taken a toll. Steeplejacks are working to repair holes and open seams in the steeple's copper cladding. Crews are also making safety improvements to the inside of the church.
"It is a big part of downtown Burlington. The green steeple is seen in a lot of signage for the city of Burlington and we are glad to have that role," said Rev. Karen Mendes of the First Baptist Church.
The copper roof first went up at the Church in 1905. The work will cost an estimated $17,000. State historic preservation dollars will help pay for it.
