New law: Don't text in construction zones

Posted: Updated:

Colchester Police are reminding drivers to put down their electronic devices in construction zones.

It's now illegal to use any hand held devices -- like cell phones, tablets, GPSs -- or iPods -- in workzones unless the hands-free feature is enabled. The law took affect January 1st.

If you're caught you'll be slapped with a $230 fine and 2 points on your license. Those penalties more than double for subsequent offenses.
