Waterbury Winter Festival kicks off 10 day run

Posted: Updated:

For the second year Waterbury is celebrating the Winter recreation season.

The 10-day Winter Festival still has a week left of activities. On Sunday about 70 people turned out for a broomball tournament. Organizers say there are plenty of indoor and outdoor events to come -- including snow mountain bike races, snowshoeing, a poetry slam and much more. Due to inclement weather. Several weekend activities have been postponed until next weekend.

Event organizer Chad Ummel says it's more fun for families to look forward to. "Regrettably we were forced to postpone a great many of events -- we didn't cancel much. But the weather didn't allow for simple cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and some nordic ski races -- inadequate or unsafe conditions. And now that Mother Nature is helping us out, we are going to pick it all back up again," he said.
