Skiers and riders can hit the slopes this Sunday and help out Vermonters in need at the same time.
"Ski for Heat" is an annual effort that raises money for people who need home heating assistance. It started back in 2001 when Martha Robertson wanted to make a $100 donation and found there was no easy way to do it.
"I thought that I would like to be an anonymous oil angel, and just make a donation of heating fuel to a family that is having a tough time in the winter. The flaw in that is that my husband and I struggle to pay our own heating bills so I couldn't just make the donation. So I thought that I needed to come up with a way to raise the money," explains Robertson.
And for the first time this year, "Ski for Heat" is going statewide. Fourteen alpine and nordic resorts are participating. The money raised will be distributed by community action agencies. Click here for more information.
