Cambridge home destroyed in fire

Posted: Updated:
CAMBRIDGE, Vt. -

Cambridge firefighters couldn't save a home that burned to the ground Tuesday night.

The family of four told crews they woke up to the fire alarm, smoke and flames. They made it out safely then drove to a neighbor's house to call 911.

Three fire departments responded to the blaze.

Assistant Fire Chief Dan Wyckoff said most of the house on Lower Pleasant Valley Road was already engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

"We were unable to control or contain it. It was beyond saving," said Wyckoff.

Firefighters say they think the fire started in the garage.

The Red Cross is helping the family.
