As Chittenden County Democrats prepare to nominate a replacement for State Senator Sally Fox, they've learned her husband is interested in the job.
Fox died earlier this month from cancer and the governor will choose a person to fill out the last year of her term. County Democrats are scheduled to select nominees Wednesday night. Six Democrats had expressed interest in the job. But now Fox's widower Michael Sirotkin has told party leaders he wants the seat.
Historically, legislative seats have been given to spouses of deceased lawmakers if they are interested. Two of the other candidates have now withdrawn. Party leaders say they expect the others to pull out, too.
Sirotkin has been a familiar face at the Statehouse for decades as an advocate for senior citizens and a lobbyist.
