A South Woodstock man is facing felony animal cruelty charges for leaving his pets alone to freeze.

Police say they found two emaciated and freezing dogs at Andrew Cleland's house in early January. They said the home was covered in feces and the water bowls were frozen. A return visit also revealed his cat had frozen to death. The dogs were nursed to health and turned over to the humane society.

If convicted, Cleland faces up to five years in jail.
