ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Two northern New York men have pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally removing and disposing of asbestos.

John Mills and Terrance Allen of Malone admitted in court Tuesday they intentionally failed to report the release of the asbestos, which was removed from the basement of buildings owned and operated by Mills.

The two men were charged with making false statements to law enforcement officers regarding properties that Mills owned and operated. Mills also was charged with retaliating against a witness.

According to the indictment, the defendants illegally removed and disposed of more than 260 linear feet of pipe wrap containing asbestos.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 12 in Albany. Maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
