The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team rolled to a 95-71 victory over Pace University Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play in the Ross Sports Center. The Purple Knights snapped a three-game losing streak and are now 12-5 overall and 7-5 in the league.
Ten different Saint Michael's players scored, with junior James Cambronne netting 20 for the seventh time in 10 games. Classmates Corey Crawford II had 16 points, junior Mike Thompson posted 13 points and eight rebounds and sophomore Greg Grippo had 12 points.
Pace held a 12-10 edge at 12:58 of the opening half. However, a fast-break alley-oop dunk from Crawford to Bonds at 12:02 accounted for the first points of a 45-10 run that lasted for 12:53 and spanned halftime. The Purple Knights are back in action when they host American International College on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team fell, 71-66 to Pace University during Northeast-10 Conference play in the Ross Sports Center Saturday. The Purple Knights are now 3-13 overall and 2-10 in the league.
Junior Maggie Sabine dropped in 31 points for Saint Michael's, coming within five of Kathy O'Neil's '81 school record, set on Dec. 6, 1980. First-year Indira Evora had 10 points and senior Cara Deroy chipped in seven points and six assists. The teams played through 13 ties and 10 lead changes.
In the second half, junior Kelly Frappier posted four straight points to put Saint Michael's ahead by a 46-44 count with 12:41 remaining, but Pace countered with the next 11 points to go ahead for good. The Purple Knights close a short two-game homestand on Tuesday versus American International College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. before hitting the road for three straight contests.
