Personalized Learning Plan website up and running

Posted: Updated:

Gov. Peter Shumlin unveiled new tools for teachers Wednesday as they begin working with students to develop plans for the future.

Starting in November 2015, as part of a series of education reforms passed by the Legislature last year, every student will develop Personalized Learning Plans.

The plans, which can be altered, will provide opportunities for internship experiences and college coursework before the student leaves high school in an effort to expose kids to potential career or higher education opportunities.

Officials announced Wednesday that the learning plan website is up and running. The site has resources and links to help teachers, administrators and students get to know how the Personalized Learning Plans will work.

"The idea is to make sure that we have a system where very early on in the educational journey-- starting in seventh grade and moving forward from there-- we are matching your interests and your opportunities with career goals," said Shumlin, D-Vermont.

Shumlin says the state hopes every student will have his or her own personalized learning plan within four years. He could not say how much money the program will cost.
