Dramatic cruiser cam video was released Friday by the Winooski Police Department.
Last week one of our photographers -- caught the chase on camera -- and tonight we see it from the eyes of the officers involved.
Last Friday police stopped a red pickup on LeClair Street in Winooski for a traffic violation -- only to realize the occupants were wanted in connection with a state police case.
While the driver -- Evan Blum -- was being questioned -- police say the passenger -- Tyshawn Mack -- grabbed the wheel and took off. It was all caught on our Channel 3 cameras.
Police scrambled to catch the runaway truck and flipped on their cruiser cams.
Sgt. Michael Cram says Mack hit a car before ditching the truck and fleeing on foot toward the Woolen Mill Apartments.
Within seconds the suspect comes back down the hill with two officers on his heels. He's tased and put in the back of a cruiser.
Officer(s): We haven't checked him for weapons, did you? Nope. What do you have on you?
Officer(s): You don't run for nothing like that.
Police say they then found marijuana and a few thousand dollars cash on him. Turns out the Brooklyn man is a wanted fugitive out of New York City for a burglary charge.
Officer(s): Are you a bad dude?
Mack: I'm just drinking tonight. Some Remy Martin. I put it under the front seat.
But the charges are stacking up. Mack was arrested for several motor vehicle violations. Then police got a warrant to search the truck -- and say they found two guns as well as 103 grams of heroin -- 45 grams of crack cocaine -- and 43 grams of ecstasy. The drugs have an estimated street value of 90 to 100-thousand dollars.
Mack is being held for lack of bail. No word yet -- if state police have filed charges against the owner of the truck.
