CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire lawmakers will debate proposals to increase the speed limit to 70 mph along most of Interstate 89 and on Route 101 from Manchester to Hampton.
NHPR radio reports the bills' sponsor - Manchester Rep. Steve Vaillancourt - says the higher limits are more in keeping with the speed drivers actually travel on those roads.
Vaillancourt also backed the move to increase the speed limit to 70 along most of Interstate 93 from Canterbury north to the Vermont border that took effect this year. The only exception is a stretch of the highway that runs through Franconia Notch.
Both bills go before the House Transportation Committee Tuesday.
