Montpelier's former city planner is running for Mayor -- against the incumbent who prompted her firing.
Gwendolyn Hallsmith says she will formally announce her candidacy on Wednesday. She was fired by the city manager last fall for a list of alleged infractions including unprofessional behavior and insubordination. Hallsmith claims Mayor John Hollar pushed for her removal, saying that her public support for a public banking system was anti-capitalist and conflicted with her city duties. Hollar recently announced his plans to seek a second term as Montpelier mayor.
