A long lost World War I Purple Heart has found its way back to a family in Maine.
A Vermont woman discovered the military medal in her uncle's belongings after he passed away. Sheila Bedi of Vershire suspects her uncle picked it up at a yard sale. Private First Class Frank Conroy received the Purple Heart 95 years ago and died in 1936. His closest living relative is a great-grand niece. Bedi found her with the help of the group Purple Hearts Reunited.
"It was an honor and very exciting at the time to bring it back home to the family. It has a lot of significant meaning to the family," Bedi said. "Part of finding something that's lost-- the best part is giving it back to where it belongs."
Bedi says the Purple Heart was left behind in a box in a barn.
