Service planned for RI woman killed skiing in Vt.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (AP) - A private memorial service has been planned for a college student from Rhode Island who died while skiing in Vermont.

A spokeswoman for St. George's School in Middletown says the school will hold a memorial service for classmates, family and friends of Kendra Bowers on Sunday at the school chapel. The service and campus will be closed to the public.

Police say the 19-year-old University of Vermont sophomore was skiing Saturday at Sugarbush Ski Resort in Warren, Vt., when she lost control, went off a trail and hit a trail sign. Police say she was treated at the ski area and died upon arrival at Central Vermont Hospital.

Bowers was a native of Newport and graduated from the private St. George's School in 2012.
