Sandro Carissimo scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the first half as four Catamounts reached double figures in a 93-65 victory over visiting Maine on Wednesday in America East men's basketball action at Patrick Gymnasium.

Vermont, which has won 11 of its last 12 games, improves to 9-1 in America East and 15-9 overall. Maine falls to 5-17 overall and 3-7 in league play.

Carissimo missed just one shot on the night, going 8-for-9 from the field and 4-for-5 from 3-point range. Clancy Rugg added 15 points and six rebounds, while Ethan O'Day grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and added 12 points. Candon Rusin chipped in 10 points in 14 minutes.

Zarko Valjarevic led three Black Bears in double figures with 19 points, including a 4-for-5 effort from 3-point range.

Valjarevic hit a 3-pointer at the 9:19 mark of the first half to tie the score up, 26-26. Vermont responded with a 17-4 run, sparked by Rugg's first 3-pointer of the year, to break open the game and push out to a 43-30 lead with 3:46 remaining in the half.

The Catamounts' lead would grow to 18 following a three-point play from Brian Voelkel and a basket by Carissimo. UVM took a 51-33 lead into the break.

UVM made three of its first four baskets coming out of halftime and its lead would balloon to 38 on a jumper by Kurt Steidl at the 11:13 mark of the second half. The Catamounts cruised the rest of the way to their third straight win.

Vermont finished the game shooting 60.3 percent from the field, 67.7 percent in the first half alone, and went 8-for-18 from 3-point range. The Black Bears shot 42.1 percent from the floor and were 10-for-21 from beyond the arc.

Vermont continues a three-game homestand on February 12 when it hosts America East newcomer UMass Lowell at Patrick Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
