New funds for expanded telemedicine in Vt. and NH

Posted: Updated:

LEBANON, N.H. (AP) - Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center will receive almost $1 million in federal funds to expand telemedical services and equipment in New Hampshire and Vermont.

Dartmouth's Center for Telehealth launched in 2012 and its goal is to connect with rural health care providers using technology.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture funding will be used to expand Dartmouth's technology infrastructure, including software, and to buy equipment for a total of 26 sites in New Hampshire and 15 in Vermont.

The telemedical sites can be hospitals, ambulatory care locations, rehabilitation clinics or behavioral health centers. Six counties in New Hampshire including Cheshire, Coos, Grafton, Hillsborough, Merrimack, and Sullivan will be part of the initiatives. Seven Vermont counties - Bennington, Caledonia, Orange, Orleans, Rutland, Windham, and Windsor - will also be a part of the plan.
