Meet Vermont's best grocery bagger

Posted: Updated:

Competitive grocery bagging-- yes, you heard correctly. Bagging is the art of filling a grocery bag quickly and efficiently. Don't take my word for it, take Amanda Austin's. She's an expert bagger from Shaw's in Colchester.

"It's basically how fast you are at bagging and your techniques and how to build your bags properly," Austin explained.

Austin discovered her talent for bagging while working at Shaw's for the past 11 years. She can fill three bags with perfect technique in about 45 seconds. With her laser focus, she transforms grocery bagging into an art.

Austin will be heading to the national bagging competition in Las Vegas.

Now, I thought I'd try my hand at bagging under her instruction... definitely not going to be as good. While Austin makes bagging look like a walk in the park, things didn't go as well when she left me to fend for myself.

"She didn't do that good," Austin said.

Well, I guess we should leave the bagging to the experts. Austin will compete against 12 others from all across the country at the National Bagging Competition in Las Vegas Tuesday, and she is sure to out-bag them all.
