NH House panel considers minimum wage hike bill

Posted: Updated:

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A House committee is considering a bill Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan supports - raising the minimum wage.

The Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services Committee is holding a hearing Tuesday on legislation that would raise the minimum wage to $8.25 an hour next year and to $9 in 2016.

The Legislature eliminated the state's minimum wage law in 2011, which means the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is the state's minimum.

Last year, the Legislature rejected a measure to restore the state wage.

Even if the bill passes the Democratically controlled House, its chances of passing the Republican-led Senate are slim.
