Police made an arrest Thursday morning in connection with a double-murder in Hubbardton.

Two men were found dead outside a house on Route 30 Wednesday afternoon. Vermont State Police began investigating the deaths as a possible double-homicide. Police say that early investigation indicated two family members were fatally shot.

Police say the incident happened before 2 p.m. Wednesday on Vermont Route 30. Upon arrival, the men were found dead outside a home.

Investigators say Sylvester Labartino, 70, who is now a suspect in the shooting, was located in a vehicle nearby and was detained and brought in for questioning. The house is up a driveway that was blocked by troopers as the Vermont Crime Scene Search Team combed the site.

"I heard four shots. I thought three to four because I wasn't paying much attention. And they weren't in a pattern. It wasn't the 'boom, boom, boom' you would normally associate with somebody shooting at somebody else. It was almost like duck hunting. It is shocking to think that that could happen. It's shocking anywhere though," said Ashley Kittell who lives across the street.

Labartino will be in court Thursday afternoon answering to second-degree murder charges. There is no word on a motive or connection between the suspect and the victims.

The names of the two victims are being withheld until family members are notified.
