PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. (AP) - It's a long way off from the annual bicycle races up New Hampshire's Mount Washington, but registration is already closed for one of them.
A total of 635 cyclists have registered for the 42nd Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb, which is scheduled for Aug. 16. Over the years, the race has attained great popularity and usually fills quickly.
Openings are available for the 9th annual Newton's Revenge, scheduled for July 12.
Cyclists recognize the auto road course as difficult; the road rises for 7.6 miles at an average grade of 12 percent, with the added challenge of Mount Washington's unpredictable weather.
