University of Vermont history professor and author Harvey Whitfield visited the Morning Show to discuss his latest essay, "The problem with Slavery in Early Vermont."
Although Vermont's constitution abolished adult slavery, it was still practiced in the state.
Whitfield says that Afro-Vermonters held more rights than African Americans living in other states at the time. The essay is more so showing a nuanced part of Vermont's history.
He will be touring the state to discuss his findings. He will also work with educators on using primary source documents.
