Doheny to run again for Congress

Posted: Updated:
WATERTOWN, N.Y. -

New York Congressman Bill Owens is not running for re-election, so his former foe, Republican Matt Doheny, says he's running to replace him.

This will be Doheny's third time running for the U.S. House in the 21st District. Doheny was the Republican candidate in the last two congressional elections, in 2012 and 2010, losing both to Owens.

Doheny, 43, faces a Republican primary against Elise Stefanik.

"The amount of people outreach that came to me. We were in Target just doing a little shopping and I got stopped three times in various aisles saying please run," Doheny said.

Political analysts believe Doheny will be a strong candidate, with his campaign experience and knowledge of the district.
