A Bennington company announced Thursday it is closing its doors, putting 143 people out of work.
Plasan Carbon Composites makes carbon fiber auto body parts. It was previously called Vermont Composites until it was bought by Plasan North America, which operates a separate plant in Bennington making armor plating for the military.
The company says it is moving the composites operation to Michigan to be closer to its main customers in the auto industry. The Bennington factory will close in May.
Some employees may be offered jobs in Michigan. All others will be provided severance packages.
