The state's new psychiatric hospital isn't ready for patients yet, but the state is looking for its staff.
About 38 people interviewed for 90 open positions by early afternoon Monday. Tropical Storm Irene decimated the old Vermont State Hospital; the Berlin facility, currently under construction, is part of its replacement.
State Human Resources Commissioner Kate Duffy says clinical nursing positions will require experience, but mental health specialists won't need a background in the field. "We'll have training for folks, so we're looking for people who are committed -- education, some work experience, and we will be giving them the training they'll need to provide the clinical care patients will need," Duffy said.
Monday night's job fair runs until 8 p.m. at 439 Industrial lane in Barre. A second day of walk-in interviews will be conducted Thursday as well.
Those who formerly held positions at the old facility received the first opportunity to apply.
