The trial for Burlington Telecom began Wednesday, about where $17 million of city money went.
The lawsuit was filed in 2009 by two former city council members on behalf of Queen City taxpayers.
The trial opened with hours of testimony from Burlington's former chief administrative officer, Jonathan Leopold. Leopold held the position during the administration of Mayor Bob Kiss, who is also expected to testify this week. Leopold testified that he was unaware the utility company was millions of dollars in debt when he recommended the City Council continue to borrow more money.
