Vt. Senate chief supports repeal of aid in dying

Posted: Updated:

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The president pro tem of the Vermont Senate says he would support a repeal of the state's aid-in-dying law, but its chief sponsor says she hasn't heard anything about the way it's operating to give her concern.

The comments from Senate President Pro Tem John Campbell and Health and Welfare Committee Chairwoman Claire Ayer followed a news conference Thursday in which critics of the law said it has several flaws and called for a moratorium on implementing it.

The Vermont Alliance For Ethical Health Care as well as the Vermont Coalition for Disability Rights say the law fails to address several issues, including immunity for nurses and pharmacists. Both opposed the bill that passed last year.
