Half a dozen cows were killed in a barn fire in Morristown Friday.

Crews were called to the farm on Fitzgerald Road before 9 a.m. They found heavy fire in the main barn and farm workers scrambling to get about 180 dairy cows out of harm's way.

"We got here-- it's daytime-- a little short-handed. So, we got a lot of mutual aid departments here. Pulled in, started laying lines and just started hitting it. Fire was throughout the barn when we arrived on scene," Morrisville Assistant Fire Chief Shawn Goodell said.

The barn is a complete loss and in the rubble, firefighters say they found about a half dozen dead cows. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
