Vt. team wins Guard Biathlon Championships

JERICHO, Vt. -

Vermont hosted the National Guard Bureau's Biathlon Championships this week.

More than 122 soldiers and airmen athletes from 21 states participated in the event at the Camp Ethan Allen Training Site in Jericho. They include four former Olympians who are active members the guard.

The Guard says the athletes may go on to the World Cup level or possibly the Olympic teams.

Biathlon combines cross-country skiing with target shooting.

The event started Sunday and went through Thursday. In the relay race Thursday, Vermont took first place, North Dakota team one was in second place, Alaska took third. And the overall winners for the week's competitions were: Vermont in first, North Dakota in second and Minnesota in third.
