Plattsburgh mayor bartends for First Weekends

Updated:
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

Plattsburgh Mayor James Calnon will be playing bartender this weekend. It's part of First Weekends in Plattsburgh, a nonprofit group that wants to boost the city's economy by putting on special events the first weekend of every month.

For March, the city's mayor will be bartending at the Mexican restaurant "The Pepper" in downtown Plattsburgh Friday from 5-8 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will go to First Weekends to keep the events going all year long.

"I think the celebrations in midsummer we've been participating on are going to be bigger. We're working closely with First Weekends about seeing what we can do because the Fourth of July happens to be on a first weekend this year. So, we think overall this will be a good summer if it'll just get here," said Calnon, R-Plattsburgh.

Calnon says First Weekends plans to have a big Battle of Plattsburgh party toward the end of the summer.
