Sentencing date set for Michael Jacques

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The Randolph man who admitted to murdering his niece in 2008 will be sentenced this spring.

In August, Michael Jacques struck a deal with federal prosecutors. He gave up his right to an appeal and pleaded guilty to abducting, drugging, raping and killing 12-year-old Brooke Bennett. In exchange, the feds took the death penalty off the table.

Now, the court has announced Jacques will be sentenced May 20 in U.S. District Court in Burlington. Prosecutors are calling for him to spend life plus 70 years behind bars without the possibility of parole.
